GEAR

"There is no bad weather, only bad gear!”

Being properly prepared is one of the most important parts of a successful hunt, and while this saying makes me laugh and somewhat agree, we do sometimes find ourselves hunkering down in the driving rain, snow or fog.

We fly into all of the areas we hunt in small aircraft, so bringing the correct and only necessary gear is important so we don’t overload airplanes and it keeps things simple in camp. Your guide will have a good spotting scope, rangefinder, game bags, and water filter system. We will provide you with the food, a tent, and a small sleeping cot for the hunt.

I like to pack all my gear in small bags, packing cubes, or compression bags to keep my gear organized in my duffle or backpack. This is very helpful when we are loading the belly pod of a small airplane and have to take things out of large bags and backpacks to make it fit properly and distribute weight correctly.  You will be able to store travel rifle cases and extra town or travel clothes at the BnB or place we start the hunt from.

As far as brand and quality of gear, there are a ton of good options. Kuiu, Sitka, First Lite, Under Armour, Rab, Mountain Hardware, Black Diamond, and Arc’teryx are some of the companies that make gear that I personally use. I also always pack Helly Hanson Work Wear rubber rain gear and Temres insulated rubber gloves. I’m a big fan of Crispi Boots, but Kenetrek and Schnee’s make great boots as well. I use Simms waders and wear Extratuff rubber boots on some trips. Feel free to get in touch with questions you may have!
